Wasn’t sure if Metric could continue to ride the wave of musical excellence after their past two albums (Live It Out, Old World Underground), but the Canadian indie-pop/rock band has successfully reached new heights in electro-sound with their latest album Fantasies released (independentally in the US) today on iTunes. Fantasies dives deep with heavier bass, and dark electronic rock roots — sorta Ladytron/Bowie Ziggy Stardust. Favorite tracks like Help, I’m Alive, Satellite Mind, Gold Guns Girls, and Gimme Sympathy definitely are repeat-listen worthy, but Fantasies is a no track-skip album in the most exciting way. Fantasies is fresh, relevant Metric music, and a totally necessary must-listen album for 2009. If you’re a total cheep-o, head over to their MySpace page to listen to practically the entire album on their media player.
