Co-directors Shane King & Arne Johnson recently released GIRLS ROCK: The Movie, chronicling the lives of girls 8 to 18 at an all-girls rock ‘n’ roll camp in Portland, Or.
The film follows the lives of Laura, a Korean adoptee obsessed with death metal who thinks that “starting a band is cooler then having a boyfriend in a band”; Misty, who is emerging from a life of meth addiction, homelessness, and gang activity; Amelia, the Sonic Youth influenced eight-year-old guitar pro with a super rock ego; and Palace, a 7-going-on-17 vox queen who’s imaged obsessed to the point …

It’s the voice. It’s the voice that will ultimately stop you dead in your tracks as you saunter drunk from the bar to the foul one-stall bathroom of a smoky club. It’s the kind of voice that evokes a sincerity and grit you feel deep inside, allowing you to almost telepathically envision the tortured life-story of an artist in one 4 minute song. If I heard singer-songwriter Courtney Fairchild in a bar, I’d stop too. Her 4th full length release, …

Wasn’t sure if Metric could continue to ride the wave of musical excellence after their past two albums (Live It Out, Old World Underground), but the Canadian indie-pop/rock band has successfully reached new heights in electro-sound with their latest album Fantasies released (independentally in the US) today on iTunes. Fantasies dives deep with heavier bass, and dark electronic rock roots — sorta Ladytron/Bowie Ziggy Stardust. Favorite tracks like Help, I’m Alive, Satellite Mind, Gold Guns Girls, and Gimme Sympathy definitely are repeat-listen worthy, but Fantasies is a no track-skip album in the most exciting way. Fantasies is …

For sure Kaki King is one of this generation’s most talented female guitarists. Period. Her latest album, Dreaming of Revenge, was released today, and because we like to cut straight to the point in most cases, we’ve listened to the entire album and discovered our daily track de jour (which you can listen to below) titled ‘Can Anyone Who Has Heard This Music Really Be A Bad Person?’ The song, one of many instrumental accomplishments on the album, not only has the most clever ever song title in musical history, but also the most dramatic climax. Nothing …

Tori, Pip, Isabel, Clyde, and Santa, the 5 women Tori Amos dubs her “American Doll Posse,” combine their individual message and musical sounds to Tori’s 9th full-length studio album American Doll Posse. Note: all 5 women are, in fact, Tori herself, but she chose to creatively expose her inner split-personality desires –the desire that lies inside most women to be someone we’re not normally known for– to add another 23 tracks to her

Inara George and Greg Kurstin, a.k.a. the bird and the bee, have been gathering critical accolades and fans since the March 2007 release of their self-titled debut, with touring and promotions all over the world! All the while, the band continued to write and record, setting up shop in a hotel room, on a bus, wherever, and lay down new material.
